DEATH MACHINES were very unpopular in the ancient times. Their job was simple: To inflict torture, pain and death upon (maybe) traitors of the king, prisoners, sorcerers, and criminals. To mention a few were THE RAGING BULL (a large iron cow) where the victim is put into a metal cased "cow" and the cow is heated up (like cooking a large empty pot over fire) and its victim is trapped in the inside; THE RACK a table where the person is tied up and stretched into oblivion, cracking bones and all; THE GUILLOTINE a large iron blade that slides downwards decapitating its victim. Others included THE STAKE a long piece of wood for burning of witches and sorcerers...and some modern ones like the ELECTRIC CHAIR, etc.

But none of these death machines was most feared for its ability to emit torture like THE CROSS (a very unpopular death machine of the ROMAN EMPIRE to send a warning message to any form of rebellion by their conquered subordinates. It is known that the mare threat of crucifixion in ancient times, humbled the toughest of the tough, and the roughest of the rough). The job of the cross was to kill its victim by one method: PAIN. A person crucified on the cross (literally) "sinks" into death in extreme pain, and anguish. The cross was so unpopular because it extended the time of death, thereby killing its victim slowly and painfully over a long period of time, hereby disseminating anguish and torture in an unexplained manner which included: the painful fatigue of an outstretched arm over a long period of time (you can try this...stretch out your arms for maybe 5 minutes!); so also the loss of blood from nail wounds in the palms and ankles...the contraction of the diaphragm, which disables its victim to breathe in and breathe out normally (the victim will live on very short breaths like an acute asthma attack...), All these, not to mention the harsh weather (like standing under the Sun of about 40-45 degrees for a long period of time under pain) and the shamefulness of such public and shameful show of execution.

But JESUS was crucified! (Not to mention He was per-flogged 39 times with THE SCORPION WHIP, another deadly death machine of the ancient Romans, designed to tear skin from the bone)...

Now you see what JESUS had to pass through for our Salvation...
