ONCE AGAIN i reconstructed the story of Joseph, the
tribulations he went through, the unseemly circumstantial trials he went
through to get to that place of position which The Lord had prepared for him:
We all know how he got to Egypt, we all know the story of how his (wicked)
brethren in bid to kill his dreams, sold him to a band of slave dealers in hope
to 'sell away' his so called dreams of them (his
brethren) bowing to him "here comes the dreamer...let us see what shall
become of your dreams!" they conspired. now let's skip the tortury tale of
the dry dessert journey to Egypt, let's skip also the pain of mind torture
young Jo' had to pass through to get to Egypt; the heartbreak: "it's this
a dream or what? i'm taken away from Dad, and family? tied hand and bound to a
strange land?"..."is this one of my strange dreams" "is
this really happening?"..."is it one big joke or what?" thoughts
of such going through young Jo's mind...Let's begin the story proper at
Potiphar's house: young Jo' is doing well now, things are changing, the
ministry is moving; "even though I'm serving, but at least i'm
feeding..." "things are getting okay somehow"...
Then all of a
sudden, Potiphar's wife, a very beautiful woman (you can imagine how beautiful
women of Ancient Egypt were in those days, not like all these artificiality
here and there today); "lie with me" she says...(in case you don't
understand that means "i want you to sleep with me")...
Young Jo' is
confused! "Has she lost her mind" "is she high on some local
reefs?" "has she been sippin' on the yak'?" "i mean, i
mean, how can i do such evil against our master Potiphar?" "and most
importantly, against GOD?" well, before Young Jo' could know it, he was in
prison, not because he did, but because HE DID NOT! (i can imagine how many
young blokes these days can do that! some would rejoice at such an evil and
wicked opportunity) But here is young Jo' in prison..."are things getting
better or worse?"
But THE LORD was with Jo'! something significant then
happened in the prison: he continued his ministry, the ministry of Solution by
the interpretation of dreams, and he interpreted the dreams of two certain
blokes (we all know the story) but again young Jo' was left alone...alone for
some time, and time again..."will i die here" "will i ever see
Dad again..." "will i ever see my people again" You know, the
story is easy now because we know the end, but imagine being in a situation
where THE END seemed very uncertain...very very uncertain. what if the Butler
forgot Joseph, i thought one day? or the Butler died of one illness, or so
before Pharaoh's dreams? BUT God's WILL can never be changed! one day THE GATES
swung open! "come out O'slave!" and they took young Jo' for a bathe,
and a clean up..."O! they want to kill me looking good!" thought
young Jo'; But no, they headed for the Palace "O! they want to feed me to
the palace lions..."
But then, but then, he stood before Pharaoh...
And his story changed.
[see Genesis 39, 40, and 41]
